Utilizing
advanced fluorescence technology, the Algaewatch
On-line Fluorometer offers real-time algal biomass
data with unmatched accuracy and sensitivity.
The
Algaewatch is the ideal tool for water resource
managers and scientists interested in real-time
monitoring of water quality. Easy to use and
install, the Algaewatch provides a continual
indication of the algal biomass in water,
thus allowing for the early detection of algal
blooms, detection of nuisance species, and
a measure of daily and seasonal fluctuations
in the algal community.
Algaewatch
is an on-line monitor that detects algal biomass
through chlorophyll fluorescence. Chlorophyll
a, the primary photosynthetic pigment
in all plants, is a fluorescent molecule.
Where chlorophyll-containing organisms are
small enough (as with phytoplankton or microalgae),
fluorescence may be measured directly (in
vivo chlorophyll detection) without extraction
or chemical treatment.
