We now sell a Chlorophyll Standard Solution (PN 2100-320) for direct concentration calibration of our Cyclops Chlorophyll Fluorometers. This standard represents an equivalent chlorophyll concentration of 40µg/L which can be used to convert the sensor’s voltage response to concentration units enabling users to estimate chlorophyll as µg/L. It’s important to note that this calibration is an approximation. Actual µg/L estimates will vary depending on factors such as speciation, light history, algal...

Benthic Algae Nutrient Limitation Along an Elevation Gradient in the Poudre Watershed, Colorado Benthic algae are important primary producers in lotic ecosystems, but excess algae can harm aquatic communities. Identifying factors that modulate algal nutrient limitation is critical for effective stream management. In summer 2015, vials filled with nutrient-diffusing agar (N, P, N+P, Control) were deployed in seven Colorado mountain streams, spanning an elevation...

Mats of Zygnema spp. have been observed in the subalpine Loch and alpine Sky Pond in the Colorado Front Range. These algal mats were not observed prior to 2010. Zygnema spp. are common green algae in nutrient-rich waters, and Loch Vale watershed has received chronic nitrogen (N) deposition since mid-20th century. The fact that the algal mats are only recently observed suggests some other forcing factor is facilitating attached algal growth. Summer lake water temperatures...
